Motor Voter

The National Voter Registration Act of 1993, or "Motor Voter" as it is commonly called, was implemented nationwide in January 1995. The focus of this act was to make voter registration more accessible to the general public. Voter registration sites were established nationwide in driver's license offices, public assistance offices (K-TAP, Medicaid, & food SNAP), Supplemental Food Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) programs, state-funded offices primarily serving those with disabilities, and armed forces recruitment offices. Along with these additional registration sites, citizens may continue to register to vote in all 120 county clerk's offices in Kentucky. In conjunction with the additional registration sites, a national voter registration form was created to allow citizens to use one form to register to vote in any of the 50 states. Additionally, the law allowed each state to designate other registration sites. Kentucky has chosen to designate high schools at this time.
