​​2026 General Election Summary

September 19, 2026 (12:01AM local time) Online portal is open to request an absentee ballot by mail.  Click on the link to request  govote.ky.gov​

October 5, 2026, 11:59PM (local time) – Last day to request a mail-in absentee ballot.  Voters are encouraged to request well before the deadline if they know they will be voting absentee.

All mail-in absentee ballots must be received by 6:00PM Local Time, on Election Day, November 3, 2026 to be counted.  Voters are highly encouraged not to wait until Election Day to hand deliver their absentee ballot.  Cast your ballot as soon as you receive it. Do not delay!

Drop boxes are available in each county to hand deliver your ballot.  To find out where the drop box is in your county, voters should visit the State Board of Elections website at: elect.ky.gov

In-person, excused absentee voting October 21, 22, 23, and October 26, 27, 28, 2026.  To find out when and where in-person, excused absentee voting will take place in their county, voters should visit the State Board of Elections website at: govote.ky.gov

Early in-person, no excuse absentee voting will take place Thursday, October 29, Friday, October 30, and Saturday, October 31, 2026.  To find out when and where early voting will take place in their county, voters should visit the State Board of Elections website at:  govote.ky.gov  Voters that know they wish to take advantage of early in-person absentee voting are encouraged not to wait until November 3 to cast their ballot. 

In-person voting on Election Day, November 3, 2026, will take place from 6:00AM to 6:00PM, local time.  To find out where to vote in-person on Election Day, voters should visit the State Board of Elections website at:  govote.ky.gov  

KEY DATES: 

Last Day to register to vote

  • Monday October 5, 2026:
    • Register Online by 4pm local time.
    • Mailed Registration Cards can be Postmarked on 10/5 to be accepted.
    • Cards taken to the Clerk's Office can be accepted by close of business.  

Mail-in Absentee

  • Saturday, September 19, 2026 - Tuesday, October 20, 2026 – Online absentee request portal open
  • Tuesday, November 3, 2026, 6:00PM local time – Date by which mail-in absentee ballot must be received by County Clerk

In-Person, Excused Absentee Voting

  • October 21, 22, 23, 26, 27, & 28, 2026 (ONLY) ----In-person, excused absentee voting conducted.

In-Person, No Excuse Absentee "Early" Voting

  •  October 29, 30, & 31, 2026 ---- In-person, no-excuse absentee voting conducted.

In-Person Election Day Voting

  •  November 3, 2026, 6:00AM – 6:00PM, local time – In-person voting conducted.
